Earl Lee returns to Tanglewood for Beethoven Symphony No.9

On Sunday August 24, conductor Earl Lee returns to Tanglewood Music Festival to conduct Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, stepping in for Zubin Mehta. He will be joined by the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and soloists Federica Lombardi, Isabel Signoret, Pene Pati, and Ryan Speedo Green.

Lauded for his “intriguing grasp of both poetry and flair” (ArtsFuse), Lee was the BSO’s Assistant Conductor from 2021 to 2024. His successful tenure with the orchestra included several subscription weeks as well as previous appearances at Tanglewood, most recently in August 2024 with soloist Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to this concert, Lee returns to the BSO three times in 2025/26, leading the Schoenberg arrangement of Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer in October 2025 with the BSO Chamber Players; a Lunar New Year concert with the Boston Pops in February 2026; and a Beethoven program in the orchestra’s Explorer Series in April 2026.
